Wallform — Wallpaper Studio
01 /Overview

Wallform is a minimalist wallpaper studio designed around a curated collection of digital artwork. Instead of overwhelming users with complex design controls, Wallform provides a focused set of adjustments that let users personalize existing wallpapers while preserving the character of each composition. Users can explore different wallpaper designs, experiment with palettes and visual variations, adjust composition and placement, preview their results across desktop and mobile formats, and export wallpapers at high resolution. The experience puts the artwork first, combining a persistent live preview with a clean inspector-style interface for an intentionally simple and creative workflow.

02 /Problem

Wallpaper apps often fall into two extremes: simple collections with almost no customization, or complicated editors with controls that distract from the artwork. I wanted to create something in between—a focused visual tool where users could start with carefully designed wallpapers and make subtle adjustments without needing to understand a full design system.

03 /Goal

Create a minimalist wallpaper studio that allows users to: Explore curated wallpaper designs Change colors and palettes Adjust composition and placement Create variations of existing designs Preview wallpapers across different devices Export high-quality wallpapers

04 /My Role

I designed and developed the complete experience, from the visual direction and interaction model to the frontend architecture, procedural rendering system, customization controls, responsive previews, and export workflow.

05 /Process

The project began as an exploration of procedural wallpaper generation. The focus gradually shifted from simply generating random images toward creating controlled, intentional visual compositions. I designed a system where each wallpaper has its own visual identity while exposing only the controls that meaningfully affect that design. The interface was built around a persistent live artboard and an inspector, allowing users to experiment with color, placement, composition, and variation while immediately seeing the result.

06 /Challenges

The main challenge was finding the balance between customization and simplicity. Giving users too many controls makes the experience feel like a traditional graphics editor. Giving them too few makes the product feel like a static wallpaper library. Another challenge was ensuring that customization remained visually intentional rather than producing arbitrary or broken compositions.

07 /Solution

I created a controlled design system where each wallpaper has predefined visual rules and meaningful parameters. Instead of exposing every underlying rendering value, the interface focuses on a small set of creative controls such as: Color → Composition → Placement → Variation This keeps experimentation approachable while allowing each wallpaper to retain its original visual character. A responsive preview system also allows users to see how the composition translates between desktop and phone formats before exporting.

08 /Results

Wallform evolved into a focused creative tool that sits between a wallpaper library and a traditional graphics editor. The result is an experience where users can discover, customize, and export wallpapers without being overwhelmed by unnecessary controls. The project demonstrates my ability to combine product design, visual design, frontend engineering, procedural graphics, and interaction design into a cohesive digital experience.
